look around

I used to be incredibly indecisive about things. I had a hard time making decisions about my business because I felt unsure of what to do. I didn’t know if I was making a good decision or bad decision and that hindered me from moving forward.

I feared to make the wrong decision and choosing the wrong direction. I changed my mind a lot. I rebranded and updated my mission and didn’t have a strong ground to stand on. When designing my website, writing my content, and overall trying to market my business, I struggled. Have you been there? Let’s talk about how we can be more decisive in our business to keep moving things forward with intention.

Here’s what we’ll cover:

  • Recognizing your indecisivness
  • Understanding your business
  • 3 Steps for better decision making

First things first, admit you’re indecisive

I know it can be hard to make decisions for your business. I see it happen with my clients often. Even small decisions about the design of their brand or website can keep them from moving forward. The key is to remember the big picture. There are always going to be hundreds of things to think about as a business owner.

There is a lot of pressure that comes with owning your own business and feeling like you’ve always got to get it right. But we can’t let that get in the way of being decisive and definitive in our business. If you keep the end goal in mind, those decisions along the way will seem less frightening.

Next, understand your business

One of the biggest problems I see with my clients when they are trying to make decisions regarding their business is that they don’t know and understand their business well. If you don’t take the time to think through the deep, meaningful parts of your business, you won’t understand the core of your business.

But when you know and understand your mission, message, and core values, you’ll be able to make decisions with ease. Do the hard work first and the rest will follow along more naturally.

Brand Strategy Blueprint

3 Steps for better decision making

  1. Weigh the options: When faced with a decision in business, big or small, start by weighing the options. Start by making a list of your options on paper or in your head. Then write out the pros and cons of each option and possible outcomes for each.
  2. Trust your instincts + Faith: You don’t have to make decisions blindly. Trusting in your faith and your instincts can help make even the smallest decision easier.  Making faith-based business decisions helps cut down on the indecisiveness.
  3. Make the decision: A huge part of being more decisive is actually making a decision. Instead of going back and forth about it and stalling the process, make a decision and stick with it. You could have probably chosen something else and still see a good outcome.

Recap

We can’t dwell on every decision we face in our business. If you spend too long going back and forth about something, you’re losing time that you could be using to do better things. Some decisions are more important than others and need the time and thought in order to make the right choice. But for those daily things we deal with, we can choose to be more decisive.

Next Steps

Next time you’re faced with decison overload or something you keep putting off, try these things to help you be more decisive in your business. Sometimes it’s better to make the decision and move on than sit on it too long.
